Well, the sun rose early as did Shane....he was up and out the trailer door to go with Andrew, Santiago, Roberto and Diego. Diego is another fellow from the Rehab centre...I think I mentioned him before as he has befriended Tyler...Tyler took a picture of Diego and he wanted a copy of the pic for him and his mom. We have since discovered that Diego has not seen his mom in 8 years and she finally contacted him this last week to begin building a realationship with him.
So Shane spent the better part of the day pouring concrete and learned a lot and really enjoyed the experience. Dawn and I spent the day cleaning for the groups that will be coming next week...bathrooms, trailer, floors, laundry and then some groceries for the BBQ tonight for dinner. A good day overall...the kids relaxed and played in the yard. At 5 Andrew and Dawn's friends came for a BBQ...we spent the evening visiting and enjoying meeting some new people. We wanted to get to bed early as we were starting off early Sunday in order to drive to LA to see Kevin and Henriette and Grandma!! She has been at Kev and Henriette's since Thursday.
We set off at 7:15 am and made it to the US border by 11:15....a great 4 hour drive as the roads were pretty quiet and the military checkpoints were uneventful. The border was entertaining as there are people selling everything from jewellery to food to large Jesus' on the cross. Quite the assortment to choose from as you wait in line to cross the border into San Diego. It took us only an hour at the border....we stopped for lunch and arrived at our destination and meeting point for Kevin and Henriette and Grandma at 3:30 which was the Orange County Fair!!
We had a great time....food, rides, more food and more rides...we stayed until 11:15 pm and boy was it a blast....the kids loved it and went on lots of rides mostly with Kevin. The weather was hot and cooled off nicely in the evening. The kids were so excited to see Kevin and Henriette and of course Grandma!! We left the fair and still had an hours drive to our hotel..Kevin pricelined a great hotel in Glendale and we showed up at the Hilton with our laundry baskets full of clothes...too funny and very classy I might add. We dropped into bed as we were exhausted and look forward to the week ahead with my most wonderful brother, sister and mom.

In the morning like usual we were up early and had breakfast at 6:30 and then we left to go to angels to make prosthetic legs and then after we went for brunch. We ate at a Mexican eating place. At Angel’s workshop we made a prosthetic foot for a little girl that is 3 years old. The boys made a leg for a young boy. Angel was working nice with us kids. At the breakfast place we had something to eat like tortillas but I can’t remember the exact name of it. There was also a soup that we ate and it had steak in it and it was fantastico. And after that we went to the beach to give a little boy that was 7 years old a wheelchair. He needed a wheelchair because I think he hurt his back. He could not walk and his mom had to carry him everywhere all the time. His name was Abraham. Angel and us helped fit the chair but other people wanted to give Angel the chairs and they don’t always fit a person so Angel has to fix it. So it actually fits him. The little boy was very happy and so was the mom happy because now she did not have to carry him everywhere. We then went to the beach and we swam in our clothes and not in our bathing suits but Angel could not come swimming because he was in a wheelchair and I felt bad for him that he could not swim. We were going to pull him in his wheelchair with a rope but he said he was ok and I think he was just joking. We stopped at a place to look at the ocean and we met people who had just caught a rattlesnake. I would like to have seen it but it was in a container. They thought there was another snake in the bar but we did not see it.
Love Jessica
Jessie, Tyler and Anthony and Shane and I spent such a wonderful day with Angel. This is a man with many gifts. He ministers to so many people by assisting people with disabilities..a cause close to my heart as you know. He depends on many people for donations and spends his days building prosthetic, and giving out wheelchairs he has adapted to those who need them. People in this area of Mexico know that if there is a need around disability that they come looking for Angel. He was willing to listen and answer the many questions we had about what he does and how he does it. I made a list of items he requires for donations and we are going to have a look while we are in the States. Many items need to be bought I believe at a medical supply store.
We were thankful that Angel took us on a tour of his area where he lives..it is approximately 1 hour from where we hang our hats so it was beautiful to see the beaches and the area where he lives. He was so generous with his time and the way he treated our children was like gold. He is a very special man and I think he fits the name he was given.

Hey everyone we love hearing your comments and hearing whats going on at home we miss you all so much and are having a great time,
Today was an amazing experience type of days we started the day off with breakfast at 8:00 (up early like usual...) Then we started cleaning around the house but the power went out and we had the hydro guys come and work on it for about 3-4 hours so in the time there was no power our land lord for the condos said we had to foreclose our condos it was so sad....Then my mom,Anthonie, Jessica and I went to the Oxacan Market it is this big market that people can come and purchase bags purses and all sorts of jewelry... I bought some bracelets and neckleses for people in my dance class. Then on our way back to the house we stopped for some cookies and cream Ice-cream.. Mmmmm
Then when we got back to the house we had some chicken and rice for lunch and got ready to go to the Migrant Camp...
The Migrant Camp is a place where people from down south can come and live and get work it is called "Migrant Camp" because they migrate where ever the crops or work are, And Today around 2 we went to the Migrant Camp to hand out food and I'm telling ya it was horrible they all lived in tarp like tents and they have hardly enough food for 2 people and they share that between 6 it was a horrible site there are so many children with no clothes and young girls mabey 7 carrying there little sibling on there backs sick kids kids that have not had enough good foods and there stomachs are bloated it was horrendous...... But there faces when we handed out the fruit that was a blessing there faces all lit up and they were so happy because there was also a group there handing clothes out to the men,Women and children so it was like a miracle...
We were there with a friend of Andrew and Dawn's Alia she goes and teaches almost like a Sunday school to the children in the camp it was very cool they were singing songs and dancing and reading from the bible... it was the best experience I've ever had...
then we went to the bakery so we could pick up MY Birthday Cake Then we went to the Pizza place and ordered some pizza's and we went to the house and had pizza we invited Angelina she lives next door and is very good friends with Andrew and Dawn and we invited her 3 kids Isieis, Angela and Joline We had cake and Presents Mommy and daddy got me a gift card for HM and the movie Ink heart and a DS game... Then we had the mickey Mouse pinata then we roasted marshmallows and everyone left... It was an amazing day and i hope there will be another day like it...

Thanks to you all for all continuing to read the blogs we post and to keep thinking about us and sending us your love and comments. We really do appreciate it.
Chass...again the kids love reading your personalized messages and Tyler loved talking to you guys at my mom’s on Sunday. He got a kcik out of Bella!
Malinda...Lucy is beautiful and protective and runs the yard like the matron she is;......she sleeps under our trailer and I feel loved and protected by her.
Tanya...Tyler is an amazing kid isn’t he...I was proud of him at the orphanage. Jessie always makes me smile!
Auntie Val...Hope you are well and love you.
It seems to be getting hotter each day here and the best part of that is I love the hot weather. The beautiful part is that by the evening we get a beautiful breeze and it is a great way to sleep in the trailer.
The mosquitoes are killers....a different breed that Jessie’s skin is really reacting to, Tyler and I are slightly reacting to and Shane is only reacting a tiny bit. The problem is too is that Miss J scratches the bites which cause so many other issues. We do have the cream from the pharmacy that is helping a bit. We may need to try a stronger cream tomorrow though.
I was up at 6:30 and Santiago and I were on our way to Ensenada with Pastor Armando, his wife Cialo (sp) which is heaven in Spanish and their 3 kids, their 9 year old son Armando Jr., their son Isase who is 4 and their daughter who is 3 named basari I think. What a beautiful family and they were very excited to be on their way to their specialist appointment. It was a quiet ride as the family was a bit shy and a bit quiet. It was a three hour drive because of the construction and a long wait at the military checkpoint. Santi and I filled the silence by talking which for those who know me know how hard it is to talk for 3 hours..Ha Ha. It was great because I really like Santiago and it was a nice way to chat and get to know him better.
We arrived at the 10 am appointment right on time and needed to wait only a short time for the doctor. Santi and I waited in the waiting room while the doctor spent approximately an hour with them. After the appointment everyone was happy to learn that the problem is a skin rash that is seemingly treatable. We needed to pay for only 3 instead of 5 appointments to see the doctor which was nice because he could have charged us for each person. The medication needed was certain soap for the body, a shampoo, a cream for the skin and 3 different medications. I think they were antibiotics...1 that the whole family required, 1 that was just for the adults and 1 specifically for the children. We purchased some of the medication from the doctor and the remainder from the pharmacy. Pastor Armando and his family seemed very relieved; We made a follow up appointment for August 22 at 11 am to see how the medication is working. All told the appointments, gas, lunch and medication totalled approximately 250 to 300 dollars for the one trip....the amount is still pending as I have not balanced my money today!! Even still I know for sure that Pastor Armando would not have had the assets to do this on his own...at least not anytime soon. He was planning on selling his home so I hope that now he does not have to. Their daughter sang to us both to and from the Ensanada drive..what a sweet child.
After the appointment it was now almost noon and we were famished....we went where every kid likes to go....McDonald;s...Isase was out of the van I think before I stiopped it....his face lit up, smiling and yelling and running up to the window at McDonald’s. Over lunch Pastor Armando told us about his church and when their services were and I told him that I plan to attend one of his services. He said he would be very pleased if I did. Mama spent many times through the day saying thank you to me to which I responded each time it was our pleasure to assist. She has a beautiful smile and I believe she has a beautiful heart.
The drive home was extremely hot but our passengers did not complain,....most dozed off after lunch! We arrived back at the house at 3:30 and we said goodbye until next time.
We spent the remainder of the afternoon visiting over a drink and then went to the taco stand for supper. The kids watched a movie and we hit the trailer early as tomorrow is again another early day with Angel. I can’t wait.
Shane and the kids today had a day of relax...well the kids did anyway. They played all day outside...I love that. Shane did laundry and cleaned the trailer...I think he felt like he was at home. I guess vacations sometimes involve work too!
Take care...Jessie is sleeping beside me and she looks so adorable....she is having a lot of fun and experiencing so many great things. I sometimes wonder all she takes in but the says something to me that knows she has understood a lot.

Tuesday in the Baja

It was a hot hot day in the Baja today....Dawn and Andrew had an internet meeting this am so the rest of us just hung out at the house and relaxed,,,,kids played pretending they had a condiminium that they built out in the showers...very cute and it literally kept them busy for hours.
About 1 PM we set out to visit a fellow named Steve,,,,he does housebuilds out here for a group called IDT. We were in need of an extra house build for the end of August and Andrew felt Steve could provide the family. We spent awhile meeting many of the families his groups were currently building for and saw the new place we are set to build in August. It turns out that the tlast build in August will now be 3 homes instead of 2 so Shane will need to lead one completely on his own now!! How exciting. We met many great kids today. Clearly the area we are doing the end of August build is full of children...many whom were very happy to see us. We stopped for a hot dog as lunch was not long past and we were a bit hungry!
We stopped at a farmacia where |I needed to buy something to assit with the mosquito bites we are experiencing...they are obviously different than Manitoba mosquitos as Jessie, Tyler and I are swelling with each bite....it doesn't help that Jess picks at them all till they bleed. The farmacia girl gave me a cream that she said was good for mosquitoes....I asked how much to put on and she said whatever you need and then I asked if it was ok for kids or adults and she said I guess so....I tried it first before putting any on the kids....
We then stopped for a visit at the rehab centre to visit Pastor Mario and Roberto and the gang. Tyler has met a friend there named Diego who Tyler took a picture of the other day and Diego is asking Tyler to print him 2 copies of the photo so he can have 1 and he can give one to him mama. Tyler has promised to bring it to him soon. People really do not ask for much. We then stopped at the grocery store...we needed groceries for us but we also picked up diapers and formula and food for the family I mentioned yesterday who needed this stuff for a 6 month old baby...this is a family that has left an abusive situation and there is 30 more stories to this soap opera that I really do not understand...what I did understand was that the baby and mom needed diapers and food so that is what we provided. Our friend Santiago brought the items to the family as he knows them well. We then went tto the place where we are building the hospital in mid Auguat to remove the forms around the concrete as we need to do 2 more pours of concrete by early next week. A bunch of neighborhood boys...about 7 or 8 cam to help and they did a great job, loading up the lumber into the van! We met a family who lives by the hospital who brought us into their home to visit...I somehow do not think we have seen the last of them. More on that as that progresses. We had a delicious dinner with ANdrew, Dawn, Anthony, Santi and Julia...ham on the bbq, mashed potatoes and corn and had a great visit and evening. Kids played some more outside and then played on the computers. I have to be up early as Santiago and I are driving into Ensanada;.....a 2 hour drive or so with Pastor Armondo and his family...the fello from Benito Garcia with what they think is Ringworm. He saw the doctor at the orphange clinic who recommended he see the specialist in Ensenada. His and his families appointments are at 10 am and we are assisting them by driving them there and paying for the appointments and possible tests or medications. I will know more tomorrow.
Sleep well friends and family...we are well, safe and happy.

Baja races on Sunday

Hola amigos.....Today was a pure Mexican cultural experience...the Baja Races. It is a very Mexican thing to do and Andrew and Dawn and Anthony love the races so we decided to give it a try. It was called a Baja short course and it was taking place about 45 minutes from where we live. We learned about it a day or so ago and we learned it was about 45 minutes north in a town called camalot or something like it on the dirt road to the west...ha ha and also it started somewhere between 9 and noon. How confusing is that?
We got up and got ready to go but then Tyler was not feeling well. He had a stomoch thing going on that did not allow him to be far from a washroom. He was determined to tough it out and come with us until we discovered that there is never a washroom at a baja race...picture this...lots of beer being drunk....and I mean lots with no washroom in site and then everyone drives home from the race. Unbelievable. So Tyler opted to stay home and Shane offered to stay with him. It turned out he felt much better by lunch however it was a hot hot hot sunny day with no shade and no bathroom so I think he made the right choice!
So Jessica and I set out with Andrew, Dawn and Anthony in the buggy we have been fortunate to spend some time in....we were not going to be in the race but a friend of Andrew's named Adrian who owns the store where Hero Holiday purchases most of their house building lumber etc , well his nephew was to be racing so at least we had someone to cheer for and someone to explain the ropes to us.
It was quite the cultural experience...very manly...Tim the Toolman like. Many of the men hang around the track...we had pulled the buggy right up to the track so we had great seats...well our seats were our lawn chairs and the back of the buggy..and the women and children sat under the tarps and tents that people set up for the day...men walk by selling hats. icecream, cotton candy and candy apples.....I could finally ask the question Donde esta las manzanas....Where are the apples!! It was a very jovial and fun atmosphere. I have no idea how anyone knew it was their turn to race...no announcements or anything...just one race was over and a bunch new vehicles went to practice round the track and then go to the start area...we say dirt bikes, quads, trucks and souped up vehicle types...all very interesting. We saw a few fall out of the track, break down but nothing more serious than that. The bathroom was another issue...I am pretty sure none of the Mexican women peed all day however Dawn and I followed suit and peed where all the men were going....in a small field only steps away from the track....I should not have had all the tecates we did!! Too funny. As if we were not noticable enough we brought a blanket out to hold up in front of each other that was not colorful at all....just bright red!
We spent the day there and Jessie seemed to really enjoy herself. We left about 4 as we had company coming for dinner....on the way home the buggy conked out on us so we had to wait a bit while Andrew got it going....about 3 minutes later we came upon an absolutely horrific car accident on the highway...there is only the 1 highway that goes anywhere in the Baja so of course we had to drive right by. A semi had collided with a minivan and there is no way anyone in the mini van would have survived...we had Anthony and Jessica hide under the blanket to avoid looking. It was a grave reminder of the danger of the highway driving. My guess is someone tried to pass and it was not safe to do so. Bright daylight, clear roads and a straight stretch of highway...so sad.
We arrived virtually as the company was arriving...Pastor Mario from the afforementioned rehab centre, his wife Ninfa and their 13 year old son Caleb who's team just won a gold medal in soccor. We ordered pizza for dinner and had a great visit...we heard so much more about the rehab centre, his vision, his dreams for the future of it and his commitment to his work and his family. A really great night. Just after they left to drive home to Ensanada for the night the door opened again/....I should add noone knocks or rings the bell, they arrive in your fron drive and shout hola....Andrew's friend Nacho, his wife and 2 kids arrived for a visit....it is a never ending group of people that arrive in Andrew and Dawn's life...Nacho was there to repay a favor to Andrew and bring some fruit for everyone...Overall a great day of Mexican culture.
Tyler is feeling so much better and Jessie, Shane and I are great as well.
By the way...Sandy...we gave bears to Nacho's girls too...everyone we give them to is very appreciative!
Kathy...I would be happy to share my cooking skills with you all upon my arrival home...I can't promise I can do it on my own....everytime I cook here I have Dawn or julia in my corner!! Hey maybe I could make them macaroni and cheese.
Kendra....we asked Alberta about ozo and she told us ozo had died...how sad...they do have 2 other dogs and a pig and a garden and they are looking wonderful. I plan to drop by with some more food for them a few more times this summer especially if Augustine is not able to work too much.

Today was another one of those Flexico kind of days we started off in the morning about 7:30 because me and Mommy were getting ready for our tour of the Mexican orphanage, We got the idea from Andrew and Dawn's neighbor Angelina who happens to work there in the medical clinic So we got hooked up so my mom, Anthony and I went to the tour for 9.... When we got there we found out that the group also in the tour was a group from Seattle that has been here 2 or 3 times before and they come and volunteer for a week doing various jobs and outreach work for the orphanage, Our lovely tour guide Andrea who we knew from a former church service was a great guide she was so enthusiastic and proud of the change and how right in front of her all these children and evolving from when they started at the orphanage , And she was very good because it was her first time and was asked to do it at the last minute...it was an amazing experience and i cant believe it they have a great program there and once again something changed my life...
Then we got back to the house and we made Banana pancakes for lunch they were delicious and guess who made them.... My Mom and guess what they were actually very good,Then we went to the beach we had a blast we were boogie boarding, Burying each other in the sand and all sorts of other things, The waves were really big.
Then to end the day we went for a little chineese food, I know chineese food in Mexico i dont see the connection either but it was really good.
Well thats all for today and i am so glad that everyone in checking in on our blog and wrighting to us it means a lot to us all..
Love Tyler
So as a continuation...the orphanage was a wonderful tour...did I mention it was 3 hours. I can't believe it and it was very interesting. The orphanage is only 40 years old and there is 98 children that live there and this group has 2 other orphanages in Mexico. The exist on purely donations as there is 0 government funding for this place. They have 110 employees and many of them live in trailers on the grounds.....they grow macadamia nut trees and sell the nuts for revenue for the orphanage. We saw the clinic, the outreach area etc but when we arrived at the Day Home area we were met with people we knew...there was the home that had the children with Special needs. We right away recognized some of the children we had met last year who were with Angel. How interesting.....Tyler and I spoke to the women in charge there and she was excited about us spending some more time there. We also saw the workshop that Angel started where they also refurbish wheelchair wheels. Angel started the program worked there for 6 years and then began his own mission in his town of San Vicente. We called Angel tonight to see if we could visit him tomorrow or Thursday but he was not home and will call us tomorrow. Tomorrow we are assisting a family in need....a young women has left her abusive husband and has some needs that I will know more about tomorrow....we are going to get diapers and formula for the baby as a start and we will see from there.
Until tomorrow...

Today was mostly a day of relaxing. We slept in until 8:30 am....wow is all I can say!! We had some breakfast and went out to run some errands with Andrew and Dawn. The best part of today was that we planned on just some routine errands but it turned into a few adventures.
First we stopped at Martine and family’s house...if you recall theirs was the house we built last week. We needed to stop in a pick up the forms...I thought they were paper forms until I was informed they were the forms that went around the concrete that the house pad gets poured into. We saw Rosa and Marosol which was very nice. We then stopped by to visit the 2 families whose homes we are scheduled to build in August. These were 2 homes that were supposed to be built months ago but groups cancelled because of the scare of the H1N1 flu and so these families both have pads of concrete poured and a promise that their houses will be built. When we arrived at 1 home, 4 of the 5 children were home but mom was out working. The oldest girl was likely 9 and the youngest was approximately 1 year. When Andrew told the young boy we were coming August 18th he was thrilled...his face lit up. He was excited we were there and brought out his tiny puppy and a chicken for us to admire. I don’t think Tyler and Jessica wanted to take him up on his offer to hold the chicken but they certainly did the puppy. They jumped back in the van saying that is the kind of dog they wanted us to acquire when we get back to Winnipeg. The second family was not at home but their neighbour promised to tell them we had been there and that we would be back to build in about a month.
Our next stop was the vet/pet store where we had to take Anthony’s 2 dogs for their shots. This is no vet I have ever seen...the store owner gave the dogs their shots at the front counter where you pay. We were surrounded by chickens and rabbits for sale. Outside the store was chickens, chicks, dogs and I think a few turkeys for sale. The place had an odd smell to it! The “appointment” for shots took about 8 seconds and we were on the road again. We were looking for a auto repair shop that fixes suspensions because Andrew is needing some work done on the buggy. He had been told by his friend Adrian of the lumber yard that there was one in the neighboring town where we were running our errands. He did not give the name of the place or where it was just that it was in that community. So we aimlessly looked around and never did find it. In the meantime we realized we were hungry for lunch. We attempted another trip to California Hot Dog which was not yet open and instead stopped for fish tacos. It was wonderful and another great experience. Our waitress did not speak any English but we managed to order fish and shrimp tacos.....delicious and only 10 pesos each which is about 80 cents or so. It was quaint, on the side of the road and we sat in plastic lawn chairs under some bones of various types of fish. Tyler did not eat and Jessie took 1 bite of the fish taco and 1 bite of the shrimp taco and decided to eat saltines instead. Tyler ate the taco chips at the table and we all had a coke. A great time.
We arrived back at the house and Dawn and I decided we needed mushrooms for supper....we left with Jessie for some shopping and stopped at about 6 markets and eventually a flea market with no success. The flea market was very cool with clothes and shoes for sale on every table...there were taco stands, fruit stands and Jessie bought a cup full of a variety of fruits. The salesgirl wanted to put hot sauce on it but we stopped her before it hit the cup. We also bought some homemade carrot and zuchinni loaf that a man was selling that his wife had made that morning. His English was pretty good. The market was a fun experience and I am glad Jessie decided to come with us. We also stopped and looked at a couple of furniture stores that sell used furniture as Dawn is always looking for bargains for the homes that we build. When we got back home the kids played, Shane went with Santiago and Andrew to meet with the community about the building of the hospital in the next town and I read a book for awhile. Dawn and I prepared dinner,,,her awesome chicken that was marinating since last night, baked potatoes, zuchinni on the BBQ and the carrot loaf we brought home from the market. Jessie was so excited to serve the loaf she cleared the whole table, brought out new plates and cut up the loaf for us. We are going back tomorrow morning to see if the man is still there because the loaf was delicious.
The day was hot when we got up and got a bit cloudy in the afternoon but it was such a fun day.
Tomorrow....we are to a popular Mexican pastime...Baha racing...I am not sure exactly what it is but there will be more tomorrow.
Love Kim,, Shane, Tyler and Jessica

Boy we slept well.....the sun comes through our trailer about 5:30 am with the sounds of the roosters crowing, the dogs barking, someone hammering and someone sawing....now interestingly we can now fall right back asleep even with the sounds!!
We got up and had breakfast and I was off to work....I had asked Julia to assist me in making floutas for Augustine, Alberta and the kids today....we shopped together last night for the supplies which I found very fun.. I am quite enjoying Julia! She is very kind.
Now I think in the future I could make floutas and I am even more grateful to the floutas Brenda has made us in the past....as I am more appreciative of the amount of work they take to make. I had fun makig them with Julia...I learned a lot. This took us the better part of the morning and finally at 1 PM, me, Shane and the kids and Santi and Julia set off for Augustine and Alverta's home....with a ton of floutas, some soft drinks, Augustine's medications, some fisbees for Rafael and some hair pieces and bracelts for Carolina...alos each a bear compliments of Sandy's craft group. We asked Santiago and Julia to join us because as great as my spanish is...Ha ha I needed to talk to them more than just how are you? How old are you?
The visit was so fun,...the kids laughed, played frisbee, Carolina hugged us all and boy did we eat floutas...we learned about the jobs that Augustine has been doing, the kids schooling....Rafael is struggling in school and how Alberta is feeling. They have 2 more dogs, and a pig, Augustine has a cell phone, and they looked healthy and happy. Since Santiago noticed they were very thin on food in the house we made a commitment to ourselves that next time we are in the area..and we will be soon we will bring some groceries that can act as staples for the family until Augustine is healthier and can return to work.
Tonight we are relaxing, visiting, and having spaghetti for supper compliments of Dawn with homemade garlic bread with bread from the best smelling bakery ever!!
Till tomorrow our friends and family.
Love Kim
